ABC believes that environment has a strong influence in the development of the child. The focus is on the character building where kids are taught self esteem, confidence, appreciation and to be responsible. The role of the school in this case is to create a good environment that is loving and caring at the same time exercise their four dimensions. Between 3 and 4 years of age is when most children begin pre-school education. The development of a child is observed through 4 different developmental areas: These include physical development, emotional, social and cognitive development. During this period, the child is at a rapid stage of growth and they enjoy physical activity and have become more advanced as they develop better movement and balance skills. These developments of small muscles enable development of other functions and actions. At this age the child becomes increasingly able to perform physical actions, therefore their sense of confidence improves and starts to show. At this age, children have discovered how to put thoughts and ideas into words and love using this new skill. Children of 4 and 5 have now been at preschool for at least the past year or two and their social interaction has formed them into more social learning beings. Children are able to pick up or carefully place small objects through precision movement i.e. Children should be given lots of work to be done with their hands at this stage to help with the development of gross motor actions. Emotional development of 4 to 5 year is concerned with their sense of responsibility, self esteem, confidence, inner discipline and coping skills. Children in this period need to be given time to reflect on themselves and their actions where necessary. Interest in taking care of themselves is evident for example cleaning of their room or bathroom. Social development of a child of age 4 to 5 years includes, sharing, the learning of waiting ones turn, relationship building, accepting of rules and the making of decisions. An appreciation for culture is cultivated as well as the way in which the child orientates them self with the world around them can now be seen. Children are now beginning to play actively for longer periods. They are learning respect for others as well as coping with situations that involve other people, playing alongside peers while supporting them and at the same time being self reliant. Work that employs concrete concepts of shape, size, dimension, colour and taste. This is the age at which many children begin their schooling. There are also many physical changes that take place which in turn allow for many more physical activities than were previously available to the child. Confidence in their abilities and physical skills are at a high. Imitation games like moving statues encourages group play as well as teaching kids to understand their bodies.
