Established in 1986, the hospital has exceeded all growth expectations and now occupies all 12 floors of its own superbly located complex as well as many of the surrounding buildings. The executive management is assisted by more than 900 members of staff all committed to providing the customer with complete healthcare. Over the past few years Arwyp Medical Centre has been busy with extensive alterations. Lots has already happened, lots is happening at the moment and lots is still to come. Facilities run at a negative pressure to ensure the safest possible environment for nursing diseases such as TB and gastro-enteritis. A linking walkway is opened between the new theatre complex in the South building and the old complex which now house offices and equipment needed to support the theatres. The extended area also houses a clinical engineer’s workshop, change-rooms and a staff tea room. Three Arwyp nurses are also acknowledged for their hard work when they are presented with awards for outstanding performance. The facility consists of a medical and a surgical unit and includes separate cubicles and a system where doctors can monitor patients’ vital signs from home using their ipads. The unit has added facilities such as isolation facilities giving patients more privacy. Other new features include hand hygiene stations, the upgrading of mechanical ventilation and filtration and provisions for disposal of hazardous materials to lower infection rates and mortality. During the renovations to the hospital in 2014 two whole floors are added to the South Wing building in order to make up a brand new theatre complex comprising eleven theatres with facilities to rival any in the country. Arwyp is presented with the Hospital Association of South Africa (HASA) Award for Excellence at a function in 2006 attended by the Minister of Health for introducing new technique on spinal surgery to SA and with third place in the HASA Marketing section in 2007 for the hospital’s involvement with the Siamese twins. In 2004 the Blockhouse building on the western side is purchased and converted into doctors consulting rooms and an Occupational Health Clinic. It is subsequently known as the Arwyp Medical Suites. In 2002 the administration and management departments are moved to the refurbished Langtree Court building later known as the Arwyp Customer Support Centre. The National Hospital Network (NHN) a group of privately owned, independent hospitals in South Africa is founded in 1996 with the purpose of representing the collective interests of its members and negotiating with common stake holders. In 1992 due to increasing market share and expansion of the hospital, the property on the Southern side is acquired and a 4 story building erected to house the radiology department with both CAT and MRI scanners, as well as doctors' consulting rooms. Before long the entire building is used with wards on every floor and the 9th and 10th floor used for doctors and administration. Arwyp, a privately-owned hospital, is established in 1985 and opens its doors to the public in 1986.
