The Aids epidemic has become a global crisis as it has a direct and indirect impact on business. Employers are experiencing reduced productivity and declines in profits as a result of employee absenteeism and death. Declining and fluctuating productivity makes it difficult for a company to meet supply demands from customers, and even reduces service levels- which all has an effect on the company’s growth and development. Rising production costs for business not only affect current profits, but also future profits. What this actually means is that bigger companies that usually invest in smaller companies are themselves being affected by HIV/Aids. Their own levels of production are decreasing and they become less likely to invest in smaller businesses. Your company could have substantial costs directly linked to HIV/Aids, such as insurance cover, pension or retirement funds, health and safety provisions, medical assistance, HIV testing and counseling. There is immense necessity for those involved in the transportation of dangerous goods to be made aware of the new legislation in order to comply. The material is generic to meet these requirements; however modules can be developed to meet the requirements of company specific goods and substances transported. The National Road Traffic Act (NRTA) requires that training is provided to ensure that all employees who load transport or unload dangerous goods and substances in excess of the exempt quanity, are competent and specifically trained for the tasks they perform. In other words, everyone handling dangerous goods and substances be it Transport Mangers, Superivors, Forklift Drivers, Qualified Persons for loading and offloading, Drivers etc, must have the necessary knowledge and skills to minimise the risks involved with these tasks and activities. The methods and procedures for the safe handling of dangerous goods and substances during the transportation of these on public roads in South Africa, exempt quantities, compatibility of substances and placarding. The relevant emergency procedures and protective actions involved thus enhancing the safety awareness of the driver and protection of local environment. Driving Sense offers trainers that are accredited as competent assessors and train according to National Unit Standards. Candidates are required to study the work booklet prior to the training, thus familiarising themselves with the material and reducing the time for the active training of one day. On completion of this training course, delegates will be in a position to apply for their professional driving permit that is in accordance with the National Road Traffic Act, as well as make a contribution to road safety in South Africa. The aim of the Hazchem legislation and of this training manual is to reduce the risks of transporting dangerous goods both in South Africa and in neighbouring states. The cost of the training is R650.00 per delegate excluding VAT, which includes a training manual.
